Stand with Egypt

Above is the poster I create for our stand with egypt event here in Portland, Maine. The group managed to get the attention of the local news and we spread our support to a lot of the public who were driving or walking by.

Wells, Monica and myself began making music with the mail boxes and newspaper dispensers. It was a lot of fun, and helped the protesting gain attention. We made a number of signs and had a number protest chants to sing.

Not only did we have a lot of really good signs, we also had a really good turn out of people on the tiny post office park. We eventually moved to the street corners and had a lot of opportunity to talk with people about why we there, and what we were doing. Many of us had been watching the protests in Egypt on Al Jazeera television and it was really exciting to go stand with the people and show support for people from a different part of the world.

I have found a great connection to these people. They are devoted people who have compassion and a willingness to sacrifice their time for bigger causes. The people of Egypt have inspired me, and our entire group, it is extremely exciting to see people gathering and chanting for change. I'm tired of seeing politicians and leaders telling the people how to think or what to do, and it is refreshing and powerful when the opposite happens; and you have the people telling the politicians how to think and what to do.
